The Network and IoT Systems team conducts research on new network architectures and systems related to virtualization, mobility, and the development of connected objects. The team’s contributions focus on the design of protocols and network-system platforms, algorithms driving these protocols and platforms, as well as the optimization and securing of the computing and communication infrastructure.
The reference domains of the team are embedded systems, distributed systems, and networks. The team adopts a research methodology that involves modeling, optimization, the distribution of machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms, and their experimentation. The team concentrates on the impact of emerging technologies on the design of programmable hardware through software for connected objects, network interfaces, and execution platforms. This includes the automation and virtualization of the end-to-end network-system stack, as well as the design of Internet protocols and security protocols.
The range of application of solutions studied by the team extends from connected objects and user equipment to data centers, encompassing both wireless and wired communication infrastructure increasingly relying on the virtualization and desegregation of network and service functions. Currently, the team focuses its efforts on challenges related to network-system orchestration, virtualization protocols, and network automation for 5G and beyond. This also includes the interconnection of strongly decentralized systems like trust chains, network data analysis, security and cybersecurity, and the design of new programmable and autonomous IoT devices.
