[CST00] Distributed building site metaphor for concurrent engineering

Conférence Internationale avec comité de lecture : MICAD 2000, January 2000,

Résumé: during the concept phase, concurrent engineering enables the designers to define the best specifications through multiple iterations by conciliating their different proposals starting from a 3D representation of the product. A high level of concurrency through various ways of working must be supported. Currently, cooperative systems suffer mainly from the client-server approach and support poorly the design activity. This paper describes a new solution called the distributed building site metaphor. It shows the efficiency of this solution for the collaborative design activity. The designers move smoothly between these different styles of work. The solution is fully distributed. Thus, good performances and zero administration effort are reached over standard Internet Protocols.
