Introduction
Due to the network latency, it is difficult to provide a
system/software that allows musicians to play music together in Live
accross an IP network. We estimate that musicians can play as in a room
if latency is lesser than 20ms.
As it is not a technology limitation but a physical limitation (the
light takes 66ms to travel to the oposite point of the earth), we
provide a system where musicians can choose the latency not in seconds
or milliseconds, but in number of beat according to a tempo in bpm
(beat per minutes).
Additionnally, we have built a synchronization protocol to provide
tempo
shared among the remote sites.
Video
In these video, you can hear the ambient sound of the room. See the
audio section to hear the sound comming from nJam, our prototype.
